Head of the department- transfusiologist, Artur V. Bulgakov
Since 2012, the NMRC for Hematology of the Ministry of Health of Russia has been completely self-sufficient in providing blood and its components to its scientific and clinical departments.
In 2013, the contingent of donor personnel began to noticeably change, and a program for the development of voluntary gratuitous donation was enacted. As part of this program, events are held regularly, the most popular of which are donor Saturdays with performances by various creative teams, trainings, and of course, the annual celebrations of the World and National Donor Days. The implementation of this program made it possible to completely abandon the acceptance of donors on a paid basis by March 2015 and form a team of informed, voluntary, non-reimbursed blood donors for hematological patients.
The department is entrusted with the following tasks:
- procurement of donor blood and its components to meet the needs of scientific and clinical departments of the NMRC for Hematology of the Ministry of Health of Russia
- cryopreservation of erythrocytes, formation of a bank of rare Rh blood phenotypes for clinical use
- preparation of thawed and washed erythrocytes
- culling of blood and components based on the results of screening of immunological, enzyme immunoassays
- disposal of rejected blood and its components, class B production waste
- storage of blood and its components in compliance with temperature regimes by type of product, control status, blood group (AB0)
- quarantine of blood components (plasma, frozen erythrocyte suspension)
- plasma virus inactivation
- leukofiltration of blood and components
- issuance and delivery of blood components to the scientific and clinical departments of the NMRC for Hematology of the Ministry of Health of Russia.
