Indications for ultrasound examination of veins and arteries
Indications for ultrasound examination with color duplex scanning (CDS) of the brachiocephalic arteries:
- atherosclerotic changes in the cervical and intracranial vessels;
- if there is a suspicion of compression by a tumor, the presence of aneurysms, stenosis of the main arteries;
- ischemic stroke (including a history).
Indications for ultrasound examination with color duplex scanning of the arteries of the upper extremities:
- asymmetric edema of the upper extremities;
- ischemia of the upper extremities (chilliness, numbness, impaired sensitivity in the hands);
- hereditary predisposition to the formation of blood clots;
- suspected thrombosis;
- nonspecific aortoarteritis;
- Raynaud's disease;
- anterior scalene muscle syndrome.
Indications for ultrasound examination with color duplex scanning of the arteries of the lower extremities:
- suspected embolism of the arteries of the lower extremities;
- pain in the legs (shins) when walking;
- absence or weakening of the pulse on the arteries of the lower leg;
- diabetes mellitus;
- previous operations on the arteries of the lower extremities.
Indications for ultrasound examination with color duplex scanning of the veins of the upper extremities:
- asymmetric edema of the veins of the upper extremities;
- neck tumors;
- thrombosis;
- phlebitis;
- thrombophlebitis;
- congenital malformations of the veins;
- varicose veins;
- injuries to the upper extremities with suspected damage to vascular bundles;
- after carrying out surgical interventions on vessels or in areas located in close proximity to them;
- muscle weakness in the arms;
- feeling of numbness;
- tortuosity of the subcutaneous veins and soreness along the course of the vessels..
Indications for ultrasound examination with color duplex scanning of the veins of the lower extremities:
- retroperitoneal tumors with compression of the inferior vena cava, iliac vessels;
- asymmetric edema of the lower extremities;
- thromboembolism of the branches of the pulmonary artery;
- examination before a planned surgical intervention;
- varicose veins;
- thrombophlebitis;
- chronic venous insufficiency;
- insufficiency of the valvular apparatus of the veins of the perforating and deep system.
