Head of the laboratory- doctor of clinical laboratory diagnostics, Olga S. Kalmykova.
The Laboratory for the Immunological Safety of Transfusions performs a complex of clinical and diagnostic studies in accordance with the current regulatory documents, instructions and methods. The laboratory functions as part of the Division of Transfusiology.
The laboratory performs a multitude of immunohematological studies for patients of the NMRC for Hematology’s clinics and donors. The laboratory is also responsible for the quality control of the received blood components.
Laboratory staff are highly qualified specialists with extensive work experience.
The list of analyzes carried out in the laboratory:
- clinical blood tests of donors (primary determination of blood group and Kell antigen, general clinical blood test with leukocyte formula, thrombogram, determination of ESR, hemoglobin amount, Duke bleeding time);
- biochemical studies (determination of alanine aminotransferase, total protein, protein fractions);
- immunohematological studies (determination of the blood group AB0, Rh, Kell, phenotype; test for compatibility before transfusion of erythrocyte-containing media; determination of compatible donor-recipient pairs for platelet transfusions; determination of anti-erythrocyte antibodies (indirect Coombs test); determination of the titer of natural isohemagglutinins; determination of cold erythroagglutinins; direct Coombs test; immunological analysis of post-transfusion reactions)
- medical examination of blood donors in conditions of departure;
- quality control of blood components;
- advisory reception of blood samples from other health facilities in the event of controversial cases and difficulties in laboratory diagnostics associated with the patient's condition.
Objective: Improving the quality of laboratory tests of donor blood to ensure the efficiency and safety of transfusion of blood components. Improving the quality of immunohematological blood tests in donors and recipients to ensure the immunological safety of transfusion of blood components. Thanks to the work of the laboratory, constant dynamic monitoring of the health of the donor and careful monitoring of the received blood products and its components are carried out.
