Head of the Laboratory of Pathology and Pharmacology of Hemostasis

Galina Belozerskaya graduated from the Moscow Medical Dental Institute with a degree in general medicine (1981). In 1983 she completed a clinical residency in the specialty neuropathology. From 1983 to 1986 she worked as a neuropathologist, and since 1986 she has been working as a researcher in the Laboratory of Pathology and Pharmacology of Hemostasis of the State Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (now NMRC for Hematology). In 1990 she prepared and defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic, "Research of Specific Pharmacological Activity of New Hemostatic Agents of Local and Resorptive Action" (specialty 14.00.25 Pharmacology). She became a senior researcher of the same laboratory in 1991.
The main direction of Galina Belozerskaya’s scientific activity is focused on the development and study of the pharmacological effect of hemostatic agents.
In the period from 2002 to 2006, Galina Belozerskaya. took part in the implementation of research work on the following topics:
- "Development of new diagnostic and treatment tools for thrombosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)" (state registration number 01200001744; 2000-2004);
- "Development of molecular technologies for the diagnosis of blood system diseases and treatment of hemoblastosis" (state registration number 01200205999; 2002-2004);
- on request of the Ministry of Education and Science, work was carried out on the topic, "High-performance methods for the search and synthesis of peptides and peptidomimetics - drug prototypes" (2005-2006);
- She was also the responsible executor of studies to assess the specific pharmacological activity of domestic samples of recombinant factor VIIa by request of the Ministry of Education and Science, “Production of recombinant human proteins for the fight against massive blood loss” (2006).
Galina Belozerskaya, in collaboration with with the Bakulev Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery conducted research on the development of a new adhesive hemostatic composition to stop bleeding during heart surgery. Together with the Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry named after Favorsky , she conducted research on the hemostatic activity of original metal-containing compounds based on polyacrylic acid.
Together with the staff of the Department of State Control and Study of the Efficacy and Safety of Drug Quality of the State Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Galina Belozerskaya conducted research on the study of the hemostatic activity of the new substance, meparan, on the topic, "Development and experimental study of a new copper-based drug for the treatment of wounds and burns at the stages of medical evacuation.”
Galina Belozerskaya took part in the development and introduction into clinical practice of a new composite hemostatic material "Coletex-Gem,” collagen-platelet hemostatic sponge "Trombokol," hemostatic dressing "Gemotex," and hemostatic glue "GemoCompact.”
In 2009 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: "Development of New Hemostatic Agents of Local and Systemic Action" (specialty 14.03.06 "Pharmacology, clinical pharmacology").
Since 2010, she has been working in the Laboratory of Pathology and Pharmacology of Hemostasis as a leading researcher. She has been the head of the laboratory since February 2014.
Throughout her career, Galina Belozerskaya has repeatedly participated in various Russian conferences and has 20 patents for inventions.
From 2011 to the present, under the leadership of Galina Belozerskaya, together with the Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry, research is being carried out on the creation of new hemostatic compositions based on polyacrylic acid salts. A patent for invention RUS 2585366 dated 06/10/2014 was obtained on the topic, "An effective hemostatic agent based on a double lithium-copper salt of polyacrylic acid, simultaneously possessing a high antiseptic effect" and an application was filed for a patent for the invention, "Incomplete gold salt of polyacrylic acid, a method of its production and a remedy based on it, which has a hemostatic effect when applied externally.”
From 2012 to 2013, Galina Belozerskaya was responsible for the research work, "Study of the specific pharmacological activity of a biodegraded hemostatic drug for stopping capillary and parenchymal bleeding" under State Contract No. 14.N08.12.0005 with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Under the leadership of Galina Belozerskaya, in 2013–2014, within the framework of contracts for the performance of research work No. 127 dated July 01, 2013, and No. 591 dated May 28, 2014, the laboratory staff took part in research on the topic, "The study of hemostatic activity of skin antiseptic, "Doctor Chistoteloff " on an experimental animal model."
From 2015 to the present, under the guidance of Galina Belozerskaya, researchers and graduate students of the Laboratory of Pathology and Pharmacology of Hemostasis have been conducting research on the development of new agents for the prevention and treatment of hemorrhages and thrombosis. Three patent applications for invention have been filed on this topic: "Hemostatic sponge,” "Sponge hemostatic," and "Wound covering with a hemostatic effect and a method for its production." In 2015, A.R. Lempert, prepared and defended his diploma at the laboratory on the topic, "The Dependence of the Local Hemostatic Effect on the Physicochemical Properties of Sodium Alginate in the Form of a Sponge." Under the guidance of Galina Belozerskaya, L.V. Akopyan defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic, “Comparative Evaluation of New Local Hemostatic Agents in Patients with Bleeding in Otorhinolaryngology.” Two more dissertations are being prepared for defense.
Since July 2016, in accordance with the order of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, dated July 27, 2016, Galina Belozerskaya is an expert of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Galina Belozerskaya has been awarded certificates from the leadership of the NMRC for Hematology of the Russian Ministry of Health.
