Gennady M. Galstyan graduated with a degree in general medicine from the Yerevan Medical Institute in 1984. In 1986 he completed his clinical residency at the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov, completing his postgraduate studies there in 1989.
In 1989 he defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic, "The effect of Calcium Antagonists on Hemodynamic, Hormonal and Water-electrolyte Parameters in Patients with Chronic Glomerulonephritis with Arterial Hypertension." In 2003 he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic, "Septic Shock and Acute Respiratory Failure in a Hematological Clinic."
Gennady Galstyan began his career in 1986 as a general practitioner and nephrologist in the Clinic of Therapy and Occupational Diseases of the First Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov.
He has been working at the National Medical Research Center for Hematology since 1989, that is, since the actual creation of a specialized department of anesthesiology and resuscitation for hematological patients. He stands at the foundation and is one of the organizers of intensive care in hematology and resuscitation hematology.
Gennady Galstyan has been working as an anesthesiologist-resuscitator since 1989. He became a senior researcher of the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology in 1995 and a leading researcher of the same department in 1999.
From 2009 to the present he has been the head of the Division of Resuscitation and Intensive Care of the NMRC for Hematology.
Gennady M. Galstyan is the editor of the journal "Hematology and Transfusiology", member of the Board of the Moscow Scientific Society of Anesthesiologists and Resuscitators, and a member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine.
He participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the terrorist act in Beslan in 2004.
