Sergey Kravchenko graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Kharkov Medical Institute (1986) and completed his clinical residency in the specialty "hematology and blood transfusion" at the Hematological Research Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in the of the Department of Hematology and Intensive Care (1990-1992).
In 1992, he began his full-time postgraduate studies at the Hematological Research Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The dissertation work "Efficacy of cyclosporine A in the treatment of partial red cell aplasia of the bone marrow" was carried out in the Department of Hematology and Intensive Care under the guidance of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alexander V. Pivnik (head of the department - Honored Doctor of Russia Alexandra M. Kremenetskaya). As part of his dissertation work, bone marrow cells were cultivated in the Laboratory of Hematopoietic Physiology (head of the laboratory - Iosif L. Chertkov, curators - Tatyana E. Manakova, Lyudmila P. Gerasimova). Molecular diagnosis of parvovirus B19 infection was performed in the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics under the supervision of Neal S. Young (Bethesda, USA).
In 1995, as part of a specialist exchange program, he completed an internship in the USA at the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics (Bethesda) and MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston).
In 1996 he became an Assistant Professor and then an Associate Professor of the Department of Hematology and Transfusiology of the Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (Head of the Department - Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor A. I. Vorobyov).
Since 1999 Kravchenko has been a senior researcher at the Department of Hematology and Intensive Care of the NMRC for Hematology.
In 2000, the Director of the Hematological Research Center, A.I. Vorobyov, sent Sergey Kravchenko to Geneva (Switzerland) to participate in a meeting of the World Health Organization on issues in transfusiology.
In 2001 Kravchenko was appointed to the position of head (scientific supervisor) of the Department of Hematology and Intensive Care.
Kravchenko’s scientific activity is focused on the development of new approaches to the choice of therapy and highly effective treatment programs for tumors of the lymphatic system.
He regularly participates as a speaker at Russian and foreign scientific conferences on the problems of tumors of the lymphatic system.
He is a member of the team of authors for the development of Russian clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoproliferative diseases.
Kravchenko is the author of sections in the "Guide to Hematology" edited by A.I. Vorobyov, the atlas "Tumors of the Lymphatic System" edited by A.I. Vorobyov, the collection "Diagnostic algorithms and protocols for the treatment of diseases of the blood system" edited by V.G. Savchenko.
Under the guidance of S.K. Kravchenko, 8 theses for the degree Candidate of Medical Sciences have been defended.
The scientific work of the department's employees has twice been supported by grants from the President of the Russian Federation.
S.K. Kravchenko is the author (co-author) of five patents for invention:
