In 2015 he graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov. In 2015 he began his residency, and then postgraduate studies at the Department of Orphan Diseases of the NMRC for Hematology. In 2017 he began working in the same department. In 2020, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic, "Dynamics of laboratory parameters reflecting the activity of the macrophage system in patients with Gaucher type I disease against the background of pathogenetic therapy.”
He is the author of 30 publications in Russian and foreign journals and a co-author of the patent for the invention, "Method for determining the severity of pathological infiltration of the bone marrow in Gaucher disease" (2020).
Ponomarev annually participates and presents reports in both Russian and international conferences devoted to the problems of non-tumor hematology.
He is a member of the international working group on the study of Gaucher disease (IWGGD). Since 2017 he has been supervising the Russian Gaucher Disease Registry, and since 2018 he has been carrying out an expert assessment of the need for drug provision for patients with Gaucher disease within the framework of the federal program "14 High-Cost Nosologies".
He is a co-author of national clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of Gaucher disease, acute porphyria and folic deficiency anemia.
Ponomarev is active in organizing educational activities: organization and holding of the annual national conference "Polysystemic orphan diseases in adults as an interdisciplinary problem" (2018-2022), field seminars "Polysystemic diseases in adults" (2019-2022), mentoring on Gaucher's disease (2016-2021), a series of educational webinars "Orphan diseases in the practice of a hematologist" (2021).
He is a coordinator and co-researcher in Russian and international clinical studies on the efficacy and safety of new drugs used for the treatment of Gaucher disease, type II mucopolysaccharidosis, hereditary hemochromatosis and beta-thalassemia.
