The responsible individual is the head of the Division of Diagnostics and Treatment of Hematological Diseases, hematologist, Alina Kohno. In 2023, the Division of Diagnostics and Treatment of Hematological Diseases (outpatient department) received 12,837 patients with diseases of the blood system, of whom 8,225 came to the NMRC for Hematology for the first time. On average, one in ten patients is hospitalized. Outpatient appointments are conducted by 32 hematologists, as well as surgeons, orthopedic traumatologists and other specialists.
Each person has their own story. During the appointment, the hematologist listes to complaints, collects anamnesis, identifies those that are significant for diagnosis, conducts an examination, prescribes an examination, often does a bone marrow puncture and trepanobiopsy, and outlines a treatment plan. Such an "investigation" requires deep knowledge, a broad professional outlook, special skills, and the ability to establish contact with the patient.
