In 2012, Alexey Komarov was admitted to the NMRC for Hematology for treatment of a blood disease- lymphoma in the fourth stage. He constantly needed transfusions of blood and its components (platelets). Throughout the year, donors from among relatives, friends and those who responded in social networks came to him.
Alexey himself is a poet and a volunteer firefighter. In September 2013, Alexey was discharged from the hospital with stable remission and decided to gather all of his donors and arrange an excursion for them in the reserve “Crane Homeland.”
The tour was led by Anya Andreeva, an employee of the Crane Homeland Nature Reserve, one of Alexey's regular donors and also a volunteer firefighter, and also, a true beauty. The tour was official. It is impossible to get into the reserve in any other way. The guests of the reserve walked only along the ecological path so as not to disturb the forest inhabitants.
At the end of the tour, Alexey addressed all of the donors with words of gratitude and asked for them, now that he himself no longer needs blood, to help the patients of the NMRC for Hematology who still do need it. He also asked for them to enter the Russian register of bone marrow donors, and thereby give someone a chance to recover. After all, currently bone marrow donors have to be found abroad and for a lot of money.
It is possible that the love and kindness shown by acquaintances and strangers became the thin thread that helped Alexey to climb out of the abyss. We are not all immortal. And the fact that friends were able to give Alexey their blood and prolong his life is the most beautiful thing that happens in the world. No matter how many years we take away from the old woman with the scythe, it's still always a victory.
More than 40 donors donated blood and its components to Alexey!
Many donors are still donating blood and its components to the patients of the NMRC for Hematology. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank them for this!
