The NMRC for Hematology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has a Library that has been in operation since 1934. The library’s collection corresponds to medical and scientific disciplines and provides students and researchers of the NMRC for Hematology with bibliographic and information services.
As a structural unit of the NMRC for Hematology, the library provides solutions to educational and research tasks. In all disciplines, the book supply of basic and additional educational literature meets the standards determined by the Federal State Educational Standard.
The most important annual source of replenishment of the library's collection is a subscription to periodicals, since most of the relevant scientific and socially significant information appears in journals. In accordance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard, subscriptions are carried out both in printed and electronic versions of the journals.
In order to increase development, one of the library’s main tasks is to increase the share of electronic content in the total volume of information and bibliographic resources provided to readers. In order to ensure 100% book availability of academic disciplines, students have access to electronic resources, which are represented by a full-text database, namely the Reference Information System — “MedBaseGeotar”. This system is designed for practicing medical specialists, researchers, teachers, graduate students, residents, and health care managers and makes it possible to quickly search, select and read the necessary medical literature in a single data source.Remote access to various information and library services is available through the Information and Library Resources section on the official website of the NMRC for Hematology. Readers can use the scientific materials of the employees of NMRC for Hematology in electronic form. A retrospective conversion of card catalogs into an electronic format is underway. The electronic catalog combines the search capabilities of alphabetical and systematic card catalogs.
On the platform elibrary.ru access from a personal workplace to electronic versions of specialized journals included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission is provided. In addition to subscription magazines, more than 5,000 magazines are publicly available here.
From your personal workplace, you can access databases of non-periodic and periodicals from such leading world publishers as Springer Nature, Wiley, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), and the Cochrane Library database of scientific research reviews. Access to the Orbit Premium edition patent search database from Questel is also available.
In the Electronic Libraries and Journals section on the official website of the NMRC for Hematology, you can find links to useful resources and access:
- the Federal Electronic Medical Library (FEMP). It is part of the unified state information system in the field of healthcare as a reference system
- profile magazines. For example, Blood is the official journal of the American Society of Hematology, HemaSphere is the official journal of the European Hematology Association
- the PubMed medical search engine. In the library of the NMRC for Hematology, you can place an order by electronic subscription and get access to the electronic version of any document from the Central Scientific Medical Library for five days (with the possibility of extension)
Annually, employees and students of NMRC for Hematology become participants in a “test access” to various resources provided by the Russian Center for Scientific Information. During the test access, participants gain additional skills in using databases and get acquainted with the results of new scientific research, which is a positive experience. Often, after great interest in a particular resource during the test access period, the organizers provide our scientists with access to the resource on an ongoing basis.
Educational, methodological and informational support for the scientific activities of employees and the educational process at the NMRC for Hematology also includes printed books, monographs, textbooks, dissertations defended in dissertation councils at the NMRC for Hematology and abstracts.
The acquisition of the scientific collection with scientific, educational, reference, methodological literature and periodicals is carried out within the limits of the funding allocated for these purposes.
The unified thematic recruitment plan is formed as a result of the joint activities of the Department of Academic Affairs and other departments of the NMRC for Hematology, which promptly form an application for the basic educational and scientific literature needed, which is an obligatory component of the work program for the disciplines being implemented. Educational literature that meets the following criteria participates in the indicators of strength of the basic educational literature on basic disciplines:
- availability of established recommendations
- relevance
- high percentage of provision
The Library of the NMRC for Hematology is constantly striving to introduce new forms and methods of work in order to provide more complete information support for scientific activities and the educational process of the NMRC for Hematology.
