Department of Chemotherapy of Hematological Diseases was opened in December 2012. Since 2022, the department has been functioning as part of the Division of Lymphoproliferative Diseases. An important area of the department's work is the treatment of patients with rare forms of hemoblastosis with severe concomitant pathology and difficult-to-diagnose diseases. Special attention is paid to the treatment of elderly patients.

The department provides medical care to patients with various onco-hematological and hematological diseases, such as Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, multiple myeloma, various variants of acute and chronic leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, etc. 

The treatment of patients with Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia is a priority in the department's work. Currently, more than 200 patients with this rare disease are being treated in the department. This work is headed by, hematologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences A.E. Grachev. The department successfully applies new protocols for the treatment of Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia and conducts scientific analyses of the results of the use of new immunochemotherapy programs in combination with targeted drugs. Other areas of the department's work include the analysis of treatment outcomes for elderly patients with acute leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. 

The employees of the department participate in the publication of scientific papers and publish in scientific journals. They participate in symposiums, scientific and practical conferences and congresses both in Russia and abroad. 

In addition to scientific and medical activities, the department annually trains hematologists who are currently completing their clinical residency.

Грачев Александр Евгеньевич

Alexander E. Grachev — hematologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences.  Alexander Grachev graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Moscow Medical Academy named after I. M. Sechenov in 2007. From 2007-2009, he was trained in clinical residency at the NMRC for Hematology, specializing in hematology. From 2009-2012, he was a postgraduate student. Since 2012, he has been working as a hematologist in the department. In 2013, he successfully defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences: “The influence of the duration of storage of cryopreserved erythrocytes on their quality and the effectiveness of transfusions.” One area of his scientific focus is the study of Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia and the development and successful use of new highly effective treatment protocols. He is an active participant in both Russian and international scientific forums.

Рыжко Вячеслав Владимирович

Vyacheslav V. Ryzhko - hematologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences, doctor of the highest qualification category, Associate Professor of the Department of Hematology of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education. Vyacheslav V. Ryzhko graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Vinnytsia Medical Institute in 1976. In 1979, he entered clinical residency and then his postgraduate studies at the Department of Hematology of the Institute of Advanced Medical Training of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, from which he graduated in 1984. In 1986, he defended his Candidate of Medical Sciences thesis under the guidance of Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor A.I. Vorobyov "Development of a method for intensive intermittent plasmapheresis and its use in paraproteinemic hemoblastosis.”

From 1985 to 2014, he worked at the Department of Hematology and Transfusiology of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, first as an assistant, and since 1991, as an associate professor. In 1999, he moved over to clinical base of the department at the NMRC for Hematology and worked part-time as a hematologist. He has been working as a hematologist at the NMRC for Hematology since 2014. He is the author and co-author of more than 200 published articles and has written chapters in four monographs edited by A.I. Vorobyov and M.A. Volkova. He oversees the medical work of the department, advises on severe and complex patients, and is actively engaged in teaching.

Соркина Ольга Марковна

Olga M. Sorokina — hematologist of the highest qualification category. Olga Sorokina graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University in 1977. From 1984-1986, she studied in clinical residency at the Department of Hematology and Transfusiology at the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, specializing in hematology. She has been working at the NMRC for Hematology since 1989.  In 1990, she was awarded the highest qualification category. She has been a member of the department since 2012. Olga Sorokina has extensive experience in her specialty and a high level of professionalism. She is a co-author of scientific articles and annually participates in Russian and international scientific symposiums and congresses.

Yanzhima B. Balzhanova- hematologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences. Yanzhima Balzhanova graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Moscow State Medical University named after A.I. Evdokimov in 2014. In 2015, she completed an internship in therapy at the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. In 2017, she completed her clinical residency in hematology, and in 2020, she completed postgraduate studies at the NMRC for Hematology. In 2021, she defended her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic “Combined expression of antigens of early hematopoietic progenitor cells as a marker of the effectiveness of treatment in patients with acute leukemia,” completed under the supervision of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences V.G. Savchenko. Currently, her research is focused on the analysis of treatment results of elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia. She actively publishes in scientific journals and participates in conferences and congresses.

Angelika M. Danilina- hematologist. Angelika Danilina graduated from the Russian State Medical University with a degree in general medicine in 2010. In 2013, she completed her residency in hematology at the NMRC for Hematology. Since 2014, she has been working as a hematologist in the Department of Chemotherapy of Hematological Diseases. She actively publishes in scientific journals and participates in conferences and congresses. She is also an employee of the Division for the Organization and Provision of Medical Care with the Use of Telemedicine in the Field of Hematology. 

Valeria K. Okhota- hematologist. Valeria Okhota graduated from the Medical Faculty of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov in 2016. In 2018, she completed her clinical residency in hematology at the NMRC for Hematology. From 2018 to 2022, she worked in the Clinical and Diagnostic Department of Hematology and Chemotherapy with Day Hospital. Since 2022, she has been working as a hematologist in the Department of Chemotherapy of Hematological Diseases. Her area of scientific interest is the diagnosis and treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome. She has published in Russian and foreign publications and is an active participant in conferences. Currently, she is a candidate for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences. 

Madina L. Kanaeva- hematologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences. Madina Kanaeva graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Astrakhan State Medical Academy in 2011. In 2013, she completed her clinical residency in hematology at the NMRC for Hematology. In 2016, she completed postgraduate studies in hematology and blood transfusion at the NMRC for Hematology. In 2021, she defended her dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic “Subpopulations of CD34-positive hematopoietic progenitor cells in the peripheral blood and leukoconcentrate of patients with hemoblastosis during mobilization,” completed under the supervision of Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences V.G. Savchenko. 

Margarita A. Guryanova- hematologist. In 2017, Margarita Guryanova graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia with a degree in medicine. In 2019, she completed her residency in hematology at the NMRC for Hematology. From 2019 to 2022, she worked in the Clinical and Diagnostic Department of Hematology and Myeloproliferative Diseases of the NMRC for Hematology. From 2022 to present day, she is an employee of the Department of Chemotherapy of Hematological Diseases. Her area of scientific interest is the diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia and long-term follow-up of patients on therapy with reduced doses of tyrosine kinase inhibitors and without treatment. She has many publications in Russian and foreign publications and regularly speaks at Russian and international conferences. Currently, she is a candidate for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences. 

Lilia S. Borger- hematologist. Lilia Borger graduated from Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky with a degree in general medicine in 2021. In 2024, she completed her residency in hematology at the NMRC for Hematology. Since September 2024, he has been working in the Department of Chemotherapy of Hematological Diseases of the National Medical Research Center for Hematology.
