After graduating from the Medical Faculty of the Moscow Medical Dental Institute named after N.A. Semashko in 1985, Elena Gribanova completed her clinical residency training at the Department of Hematology and Transfusiology of the Central Order of Lenin Institute of Advanced Medical Training of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, specializing in hematology. After completing her residency in 1987, she worked as a doctor in the Intensive Care Unit for hematological patients at the Central Clinical Hospital No.2. She has been working at the NMRC for Hematology since 1989, first in the Department of Chemotherapy of Hemoblastosis and Bone Marrow Transplantation of the State Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (now NMRC for Hematology) as a doctor. Later, in 1992, she became the head of the same department. In 1998 she was awarded the highest qualification category in the specialty of hematology. In 2003, she successfully defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic, "Hemopoiesis after Allogeneic and Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation in Acute Leukemia" under the guidance of a leading researcher, Doctor of Medical Sciences L.S. Lyubimova. She has been the head of the Department of Chemotherapy of Hematological Diseases since December 2012.
