The department functions as part of the Division of Chemotherapy of Paraproteinemic Hemoblastoses.
The department was opened in 2019 with the goal of developing a scientifically based approach to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of plasma cell tumors, including AL amyloidosis, multiple myeloma, POEMS syndrome, immunoglobulin deposit disease and other monoclonal gammopathies of clinical significance.
The priority of the department is the diagnosis and treatment of rare and insufficiently studied diseases of clonal plasma nature.
To date, a vast amount of experience has been accumulated in the treatment of AL amyloidosis and multiple myeloma, including with renal insufficiency. Diagnosis and treatment are carried out in strict accordance with international standards. The NMRC for Hematology performs all diagnostic studies, including cytogenetic and molecular, necessary to confirm and clarify the diagnosis of plasma cell tumors. Treatment is carried out in accordance with national and international clinical guidelines. In the absence of contraindications, peripheral blood stem cells are taken for the purpose of subsequent high-dose chemotherapy with autotransplantation of blood stem cells. The AL amyloidosis and multiple myeloma treatment results fully comply with international data.
The staff of the department participate in international clinical trials for the treatment of AL amyloidosis.
The department carries out scientific work on optimizing chemotherapy programs for AL amyloidosis based on patient-specific symptoms. The problem of undesirable side effects of therapy, methods of early detection and prevention of complications are being studied. Research results are presented annually at Russian and international scientific conferences and in scientific publications. The developed approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of AL amyloidosis formed the basis for the creation of National Clinical Guidelines. The staff of the department are true experts on multiple myeloma and AL-amyloidosis.
The department trains young specialists in clinical residency and postgraduate studies.
