Head of the department- orthopedic traumatologist, Vladimir Y. Zorenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences.
In 1988, Professor Y.N. Andreev, an honored scientist, established a reconstructive and restorative Department of Orthopedics at the Institute. Under the leadership of Y.N. Andreev (from 1988 to 2005), a highly professional school of surgeons was formed, which substantiated the most important provisions of hematological traumatology and orthopedics. For the first time in our country, surgeries for prosthetics of large joints began to be performed in patients with hemophilia and other blood clotting diseases.
In 2009, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, doctor of the highest category, Vladimir Y. Zorenko, became head of the department.
Since 1995, the department has regularly conducted clinical trials of drugs used to treat hemophilia and other coagulopathies.
Since 2007, the department under the auspices of the World Hemophilia Federation has been participating in the "twinning program", which provides four-year training to staff of hemophilia treatment centers from other countries (Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan).
In 2010, an international hemophilia training center for orthopedists, hematologists, dentists and nurses was established at the department.
All doctors of the department are trained in leading Russian and foreign clinics, regularly participate in All-Russian and international conferences. Almost all secondary medical personnel have the highest qualification category.
The decades long continuity of work of the department's staff makes it possible to effectively provide orthopedic care to patients with diseases of the blood coagulation system.
The presence of a modern in-house blood transfusion station at the NMRC for Hematology allows performing complex surgical interventions for patients with hemostatic disorders, providing, if necessary, all components of donated blood. Most importantly, all blood components are quarantined, which reduces the possibility of infection with blood-borne infections.
The department has implemented a system of comprehensive treatment of pathology of hip and knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle joints, which consists in providing surgical treatment of various levels of complexity using all modern techniques. The department specializes in performing high-tech operations on injured large joints, as well as the aftermath of these injuries and related diseases. Reconstructive operations using modern methods of reconstruction of defects and deformations are conducted . Surgical activity — 200 endoprosthetics and 200 arthroscopic and reconstructive operations per year. Modern endoprostheses from leading manufacturers (DePuy Synthes, Stryker, Smith & Nephew, Zimmer, AMT) are used.
The department has 35 beds with increased comfort. All wards are equipped with intercom communication with an on duty nurse, central oxygen supply, fire alarm and everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The middle and junior medical staff provide comfortable treatment within the walls of the department.
Therapeutic work is successfully combined with scientific and experimental activities, providing a more reasonable use of new technologies in clinical practice.
The main areas of surgical activity:
- Primary joint replacement is performed in all nosological forms. Surgeons use bone grafting methods to ensure the possibility of replacing bone defects. Hip, knee, shoulder and elbow replacements are performed in the department using modern domestic and foreign endoprostheses. All orthopedic doctors of the department have the skills to perform these high—tech operations.
- Revision endoprosthetics are performed when it is necessary to replace the components of endoprosthetics with their instability, periprosthetic fractures, dislocations of the knee, hip, shoulder and elbow joints. These high-tech operations are carried out using modern techniques and specialized revision and modular endoprostheses from leading Russian and foreign manufacturers. The type of endoprosthesis is selected individually for each patient, with the possibility of creating unique modules.
- The department performs arthroscopic operations for injuries, the consequences of injuries, and diseases of the knee joints, such as damage to the menisci of the knee joint or synovitis. Low trauma, high efficiency and rapid recovery after such operations make them very popular in the treatment of joint pathology.
- Along with surgical methods, conservative treatment methods are widely used in the early stages of deforming arthrosis, such as puncture of large joints with hyaluronic acid preparations or chemical synovectomy with rifampicin.
- In the department, under the guidance of an experienced physical therapy instructor, early postoperative rehabilitation of patients is carried out in a gym equipped with modern simulators, which is a necessity at the early stages of postoperative recovery. Physical therapy classes are conducted using mechanotherapy, myostimulation and therapeutic massage methods.
- Other areas of work surgical activity include:
— aseptic necrosis of the femoral head, condyles of the femur and tibia
— fractures and false joints of the femoral neck, intra-articular fractures of the condyles of the femur and tibi
— post-traumatic defects of the proximal femur
— hip dysplasia
— econstructive and reconstructive interventions on the shoulder and elbow joint
— fractures of the condyles of the femur and tibia, patella
— contractures of the knee joint
— intra-articular bodies and injuries
— cysts and bursitis of the knee joint area
— hemophilic pseudotumors of all localizations
