Head of the Laboratory- Dmitry S. Tikhomirov, Candidate of Biological Sciences
The laboratory functions as part of the Division of Transfusiology.
The history of the laboratory originates from the Laboratory of Bacteriology and Prevention of Viral Hepatitis and AIDS (more details). In 2022, the Laboratory for the Viral Safety of Blood Transfusions was transformed into a Laboratory of Virology, and in 2024 into the Laboratory for the Analysis of Post-transfusion Viral Infections.
Currently, the laboratory carries out research activities in the following areas:
- laboratory diagnostics of human herpesviruses, parenteral viral hepatitis and respiratory pathogens, including COVID-19
- development of measures to preserve public health and ensure timely detection of acute and latent forms of viral infections
- performing scientific research in the field of transfusiology, virology, molecular biology and immunology
- search for mutations associated with resistance to antiviral drugs in herpetic group viruses
- development and implementation of the latest approaches, methods and technologies for virus testing, automation and optimization of laboratory screening of viral infections
- study of mono- and combined viral infections in patients with secondary immunodeficiency (patients with diseases of the blood system) against the background of the use of new and standard types of therapy
