Dimitry Tikhomirov graduated from the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia(2004). He began working in the Laboratory of Clinical and Virological Diagnostics of Hepatitis and AIDS of the NMRC for Hematology in 2003 In 2007 he graduated from full- time postgraduate studies in the specialty "molecular biology” and in 2009 defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences on the topic"Laboratory diagnostics of herpesvirus infections in hematological patients in the specialties ‘hematology,’ ‘blood transfusion’ and ‘virology.’”
The main focus of Tikhomirov’s scientific work is directly tied to the scientific goals of the NMRC for Hematology and relates to the study of the features of viral infections in patients in a state of immunodeficiency, the safety of blood transfusions, issues of blood donation and its components, and hematopoietic stem cells:
· the study of herpesvirus infections in patients with hemoblastosis at various stages of treatment
· the study of the level of infection with viral infections in patients with diseases of the blood system, including HIV-1,2, hepatitis B and C, herpesviruses, the causative agent of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19
· the study of the epidemiological features of hepatitis B and C in the hematology clinic
· the development of recommendations for a comprehensive examination for viral infections of hematological patients and donors of hematopoietic stem cells
· the search for mutations associated with resistance to antiviral drugs in herpetic group viruses
· the study of the features of the spread of the new coronavirus infection in patients and staff in a hematology hospital setting
Dmitry Tikhomirov regularly participates in the organization of international and Russian congresses and conferences, making presentations. He regularly consults residents, postgraduates, and doctors of the departments of the NMRC for Hematology and other clinics in Moscow, giving lectures. He is the author of more than 130 published works.
