Dmitry Tikhomirov graduated from the Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia in 2004. In 2003, he began working at the NMRC for Hematology in the Laboratory of Clinical and Virological Diagnostics of Hepatitis and AIDS. He completed his full-time postgraduate studies in the specialty “molecular biology” in 2007 and defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences on the topic "Laboratory diagnostics of herpesvirus infections in hematological patients" in the specialties “hematology and blood transfusion” and “virology” in 2009.
The main direction of D.S. Tikhomirov's scientific work is directly related to the scientific topics of the NMRC for Hematology concerning the study of the features of viral infections in patients with immunodeficiency, the safety of blood transfusions, and issues of donation (blood, its components and hematopoietic stem cells):
- the study of the characteristics of herpesvirus infections in patients with hemoblastosis at various stages of treatment;
- the study of the infection rate with viral infections in patients with diseases of the blood system, including HIV 1,2, hepatitis B and C viruses, herpesviruses, pathogens of respiratory viral infections, including COVID-19;
- the study of the epidemiological features of hepatitis B and C in the hematology clinic;
- the development of recommendations for comprehensive screening for viral infections of hematological patients and donors of hematopoietic stem cells;
- the search for mutations associated with resistance to antiviral drugs in viruses of the herpetic group;
- the study of the spread of respiratory viral infection pathogens in patients and staff of the hematology hospital.
Dmitry Tikhomirov regularly participates in the organization of Russian and international congresses and conferences, giving presentations and lectures. He regularly conducts consultations with residents, graduate students and doctors of departments of the NMRC for Hematology as well as other medical organizations. He has more than 160 publications.
