The office is headed by doctor-endoscopist, Vladimir A. Makhinya.
The office is part of the Department of Endoscopy and Office of Ultrasound and Functional Diagnostics.
In the 70s, an endoscopic service was organized as a part of the Department of Surgery under the leadership of Prof. V.A. Klimansky. At that time, doctors like A.V. Tochenov, V.S. Shavlokhov, and I.A. Zagrekov actively worked on mastering this new method for the whole of the country, although endoscopic examinations were still quite rare. Since 2002, with the arrival of doctors V.A. Makhinya and O.Y. Popova, endoscopic examinations have become commonplace. Diagnostic capabilities have expanded and X-ray endoscopic diagnostic methods are now actively used: retrograde cholangiography, bronchography. In close cooperation with the Intensive Care Unit, under the guidance of G.M. Galstyan, methods for performing bronchoalveolar lavages were developed and improved for the diagnosis of pneumonia. In cooperation with the doctors of the Department of Anesthesiology, the technique of endoscopic application of gastrostomy was mastered. New (physical) methods of hemostasis have been introduced and are actively used - argon plasma coagulation. Currently, endosonographic methods for diagnosing diseases of the upper digestive system are being mastered. Great importance is given to the processing of endoscopes. In 2011, the Endoscopy Service became the Department of Endoscopy.
