Larisa Mendeleeva graduated from the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Institute with a degree in general medicine in 1975 and has been working at the NMRC for Hematology since that time.
Her medical career has been devoted to improving the diagnosis and therapy of hematological patients, as well as the development and implementation of intensive transplant treatment methods aimed at increasing the survival rate of severe onco-hematological patients. Larisa Mendeleeva worked her way up from the position of a research intern (1975-1978) to the position of Deputy General Director of the NMRC for Hematology for Research and Innovation (06.2011-09.2020). Currently, she works as the head of the Management Division for Scientific and Educational Work and the head of the Department of Chemotherapy of Paraproteinemic Hemoblastosis.
In 1985, she defended her thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the topic, "Characteristics of the early period after allomyelotransplantation in patients with acute leukemia and hypoplastic anemia" under the supervision of Professor F.E. Feinstein, and in 2002 — her doctoral dissertation on the topic "The effectiveness of autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation in patients with hemoblastosis", scientific consultant of which was Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, V.G. Savchenko.
In 2012, Larisa P. Mendeleeva was awarded the scientific title of Professor.
Under her leadership, 11 Candidate's and 1 Doctoral dissertation have been defended. More than 450 works have been published in domestic and foreign journals. She is a co—author of chapters in manuals, textbooks and collections, as well as a co-author of 5 patents for inventions.
Mendeleeva is a world-renowned Russian scientist and a leading specialist in the field of clinical hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation, trained in transplant clinics in Germany (Munich) and Israel (Jerusalem).ущий специалист в области клинической гематологии и трансплантации гемопоэтических клеток. Since 2000, the main focus of her scientific and clinical work has been the study of multiple myeloma. Protocols of early intensification and high-dose transplantation consolidation in multiple myeloma have been developed and implemented in the practice of hematology departments in various regions of the Russian Federation. The biological features of the disease are studied based on molecular biological studies. The effectiveness of therapy is analyzed, including the parameters of patient survival, the value of minimal residual disease, cytogenetic abnormalities and histological and immunohistochemical parameters. Modern imaging methods for myeloma are also being introduced.
In 2018, Mendeleeva organized the Department of Chemotherapy of Paraproteinemic Hemoblastosis, the scientific and clinical goal of which, along with the study of various aspects of multiple myeloma, is the study of rare and poorly studied forms of paraproteinemic dyscrasias (amyloidosis, accumulation diseases, POEMS syndrome, etc.)
Under her leadership and with her active participation, a school of multiple myeloma was established. Regular scientific and clinical conferences and meetings, educational events aimed at improving the quality of the treatment and diagnostic process are held regularly. As a principal investigator, she participates in numerous clinical trials of new drugs. She is a co-author of the National Clinical Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Multiple Myeloma (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020-2021).
Mendeleeva organized and successfully conducted a population study (Register) of patients with multiple myeloma in various regions of the Russian Federation, contributing to the active introduction of advanced medical and diagnostic techniques.
Larisa Mendeleeva is the Deputy Chairman of the Dissertation Council and the Scientific Council of the NMRC for Hematology, a member of the Problem Commission of the NMRC for Hematology and a member of the Organizing Committee of the International School of Hematology (1993-2022). She is also a member of the National Hematological Society and a member of the professional Society of Hematology. As a member of the National Hematological Society, she is the head of the working group on the treatment of multiple myeloma and a coordinator of the Interregional Registry of Bone Marrow Transplantation. She is an expert in hematology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, involved in the preparation and approval of annual applications for medicines under the program, "14 High-Cost Nosologies.”. She is a member of the profile commission of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on hematology.
She is a member of the editorial board of the journal "Hematology and Transfusiology" and a member of the editorial board of the journals "Oncohematology" and "Therapeutic Archive.”
For her impeccable work and conscientious performance of her professional duties, she was awarded the badge "Excellent Healthcare Worker", the medal "In memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow" (1997), the silver medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences "For the Development of Medicine and Healthcare" (2003), the honorary silver medal of V.I.
